The Dawn Before the Light
Every year, we talk about Christmas as if it comes out of nowhere — one night, one birth, one shining star. And then it’s over!
But Scripture tells a slower story.
Before the Light came, there was a dawn — a soft, quiet, uncertain light rising over a dark and waiting world.
That dawn is Luke chapter 1.
Eighty verses.
Two angels.
Two mothers.
Two songs.
And a silent priest learning to speak again.
It’s the longest chapter in the New Testament — and for good reason. Luke 1 is the bridge between the old and the new, between hope and fulfillment, between law and gospel.
Every scene prepares the way for Christ.
This Advent, I want to walk through that chapter with you — one passage at a time — in a daily devotional series called The Dawn Before the Light. Each reflection will follow a simple pattern you can hold onto all season long:
1. What the Verse Says — a clear reading of the text itself.
2. What It Means — a devotional reflection on the theology and beauty beneath it.
3. How It Applies to Us — a pastoral word for your life and faith today.
You’ll receive a short meditation each morning of Advent — something you can read with coffee or candlelight, quietly, as the day begins. By Christmas, you’ll have prayed your way through all of Luke 1 — and seen how God turned silence into song.
What to Expect
Start Date: Sunday, November 30
Format: A new reflection every morning
