Ebenezer.
One of my favorite stories and words in the Old Testament comes from 1 Samuel, when the great prophet, priest, and last judge of Israel, amazed at the sudden victory he didn’t know he needed, sets up a large stone in front of the people and gives it a name: Ebenezer. (1 Samuel 7)
Don’t you love that name? We immediately think of Ebenezer Scrooge from Dickens's classic story, but in the bible, Ebenezer isn’t a person. It’s a stone. A big boulder rolled up in front of the assembly fo people to help them do the one thing that every believer must do: Remember the faithfulness of God.
